How to Get Rid of Lip Sores

Author: Annie Hopkins

If you would like to know how to get rid of lip sores, there are a number of steps you can take. Although not life threatening, these tiny splits and cuts can be excruciatingly painful, particularly when eating and drinking, and their appearance can be very embarrassing-especially when scabbed over.

First of all, you should be aware that around 95% of persistent lip sores are caused by a common condition known as Angular Cheilitis. This happens due to the presence of bacteria in the damp areas at the corners of the mouth, which is very difficult to eradicate once it has taken hold. Very often, this develops into a fungal infection and if left untreated can be present for years, with each attack increasing in severity.

The corners of the lips provide a perfect environment to trap this bacteria. Very often, there are very tiny pockets of skin at the corners of the mouth which are damp and warm. When moisture is present, it gets trapped. This moisture can come from dribbling or drooling, possibly due to ill-fitting dentures or braces or can be the result of pen biting or finger sucking. It can even happen to people who unwittingly drool when asleep! It is most likely to cause problems when the sufferer has a weakened immune system or nutritional deficiency, but this is by no means always the case.

For those trying to find out how to get rid of lip sores, first of all, take a good all-round nutritional supplement. Next, think carefully about what the source of the moisture could be. If it is dentures or a brace, then get them adjusted. If it is pen/finger biting, discourage this by painting bitter anti-nail biting solution onto the offending object!

To get some pain relief, a thin layer of petroleum jelly will prevent air from hitting the lip sores and this in itself will provide some temporary pain relief.

The best method for those wanting to know how to get rid of lip sores is to use a method which starves the bacteria of oxygen. If there is no oxygen, then the bacteria cannot survive-period!

If you have had cracked lip corners or sores for more than a couple of days, it is likely that the condition has taken hold. If you would like to look at pictures that can help you verify your own condition, you can download this simple and effective overnight cure from the Angular Chelitis Foundation.

This cure will stop oxygen getting to the area and dry out the condition within hours, providing fast and permanent relief. Please visit Angular Cheilitis Treatment to learn how to get rid of lip sores fast.

Cold Sores- How Painful are they? Do They Ruin Your Life? Should I be scared of getting them?
If I have a girlfriend that I KNOW for a fact has HSV-1 (oral herpes/Cold sores) and I know for a fact that I do NOT have it yet ( I tested negative for it already). I’m sick of worrying about getting the virus from kissing her. So I’m considering since 80 percent of the world already has oral herpes, I’m considering just going ahead and infecting myself with it by kissing her and get it over with already, rather than spend the rest of my life being paranoid about getting it.
But I’m still scared because I’ve heard a few stories about how painful and miserable cold sores can be. I’ve seen pictures on the net of people with Oral Herpes on their face and it looks Horrible and painful. I also heard it can spread to other areas of the body like the genitals. Then I heard other people say it’s no big deal and they get cold sores every month or two. Whats your opinion, do you think I should be afraid of getting infected with HSV-1 (cold sore viru
I assume that Once I get infected with the cold sore virus, I dont have to worry about getting it again from kissing someone else.

By the time you are 50 there is a 90% chance you already will have the virus. And of that 90%, 90% of those with it do not know they have it. For the vast majority of people there are very few or no symptoms at all.

Oral herpes is very contagious whether there are visible symptoms or not. You can get it from sharing food or drinks, kissing, and even getting a peck kiss from a relative. Of course you can refuse to touch anyone orally who has not had a type specific test done, but then you also run the risk of a false negative test. There is just no way to avoid it totally unless you live in a bubble. It is a minor virus that causes so few issues for most, that it is not worth the energy that you are spending stressing about it. If you are one of the rare people who does deal with symptoms there are treatments to lessen and even prevent them.

It is your life, and you need to do what is best for you. You just need to decide is this is one of those things that is really worth this much energy. Chances are much more likely that you will find someone with herpes than it is you will find someone you really like. Which is more important to you?

My bf has cold sores… we haven’t kissed yet… I don’t want to ever get them… should we just break up?
I have been seeing a new guy for almost 2 months now. We haven’t kissed or done anything intimate. When we hung out this past weekend he had a cold sore on his top lip… I said… you have cold sores? and he said yeah I guess… I said… I hear that cold sores are a form of herpes…. and he said I don’t know I wouldn’t care if it was… I said well that’s just something I’ve heard I’ve never researched it… The conversation was dropped and I made a note to self to do research once alone. After all of the info that I’ve read… I’m kinda freaked out. He has a toothbrush in my droor, he’s used my hand towels to dry his face and he kissed my hand while he had the outbreak. After seeing the pictures of cold sores/fever blisters… I really don’t want to ever have to deal with something like that. He is a really nice guy though which are few and far between these days and I really like him a lot!!! But, I’m not sure if this is worth the risk of contracting oral or genital herpes.

If you want to break up over cold sores, then just do it.

Just to let you know though, by the time a child is age 10, he has a 60% chance of already carrying the herpes virus which causes oral cold sores. By the age of 50, 80-90% of people carry the virus. It’s very common.

    HELP! cold sore or pimple?
I rarely get acne on my face, but i do get a pimple on my lips maybe once or twice a month. However, i have something on my bottom lip and i dont know what it is.

I dont think it is a pimple, because it is really not very painful and it is not forming a head. It is just a red bump lookin thing. Though, i dont know if it is a cold sore because it is not scabbing, and it is small, perhaps the size of a pimple.

Could it be a small cold sore? It is not very painful, not forming a head, but I have only had it for 2 days so I’m not sure. A pimple I assume would form a white head and be pain ful (atleast from my past experience), but this is doing neither! However, when i looked online at pictures of cold sores they looked HUGE, and this is not nearly as big, it is maybe the size of a pimple.

    HELP!

Cold sores come in different sizes. They tend to show the most graphic ones online. Is it tingling? That’s usually one symptom of a cold sore. They can last for more than a week.

Then again, it could be a pimple, especially if you wear chapstick.

    Cold sore or pimple? Help?
Alright so I was in my bedroom one night just before bed time and I noticed that I had a little swelling on my face like 1 inch down from the corner of my mouth but not quite at my chin line. Now this is a place where I used to have skin breakouts all the time. Anyways being an idiot I kept picking at it and then it started bleeding and there was some clear pus but given that I haven’t had acne there in the last few months it has me feeling a bit uncomfortable. And trying to find good pictures of minor cold sores is really difficult on the web I can’t decide if that’s because they just don’t happen in a minor fashion or because it’s just not put online if it is. Just so you know the swollen area didn’t itch feel tender or hurt before I scratched at it, I’m just neurotic about picking at things. So what should I do?

Can anyone tell me if this is a cold sore or a pimple, please help?!?
Hi, this is a little embarrassing but I have a dot on my lip, i think its a pimple but my boyfriend thinks its a cold sore. I tend to break out a lot so it wouldn’t be surprising if its a pimple since most of face is pretty broken out right now. I googled pictures of cold sores and none of them looked like what i have. What it is a single red dot on my lip line. Anyways my boyfriend doesnt want to kiss me because he’s scared that im trying to give him cold sores and he avoids all of my kisses. Is this just a pimple or a cold sore? I’ve included a link to my photobucket in which theres a picture of my lip. Please help!
